NATO Expansion to Russia’s Borders Is a Threat, RF Foreign Ministry Says
Moscow views NATO expansion towards Russia’s borders a direct threat to the country’s security, Mikhail Kamynin, spokesman of the RF Foreign Ministry, said when commenting on forthcoming visit of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vladimir Ogryzko to Moscow.
“The line of Ukrainian leadership towards NATO integration” is one of the stumbling blocks of Moscow relations with Kiev, Kamynin made clear.

RF President Vladimir Putin described in detail Russia’s attitude at the April summit of NATO in Bucharest and during his recent get-together with U.S. President George Bush in Sochi, Kamynin said.

“It is that the emergence of a powerful military bloc on our borders will be taken by Russia as a direct threat to security,” Kamynin said, adding that “the allegations that this process isn’t directed against Russia cannot satisfy us.”
