Safin to Start Davis Cup Quarterfinal in Moscow
Russia’s Marat Safin will face Czech Tomas Berdych in the first Davis Cup quarterfinal match in Moscow on Friday. The venue is the Luzhniki Stadium.
The battle of Marat Safin, who is the No. 2 in Russia’s team, and Czech leader and world No. 9 Tomas Berdych begins at 1:00 p.m. MSK. Russia’s Igor Andreev will face Radek Stepanek in the next effort of the team.

Russia’s tennis star and winner of the recent Miami tournament Nikolay Davydenko won’t play in the singles. But he may team up with Mikhail Youzhny to oppose Lukas Dlouhy/Pavel Vizner on Saturday, starting from 2:00 p.m. MSK.

Igor Andreev will play Tomas Berdych at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, while Marat Safin will withstand Radek Stepanek in the last, and perhaps, the deciding match of the Moscow event.

The teams’ captains may change players an hour before the start of the match. Shamil Tarpischev of Russia is famous for unexpected replacements.
