Of Russia’s Agencies, RIA Novosti Is the First to Sell News to China
Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti clinched a deal in Beijing on Thursday to directly sell its Chinese economic newswire to China Economic Information Service, the agent of state-run Xinhua news agency.
Under Chinese laws, exactly Xinhua controls the information services of foreign media in the country. It appoints agents and the foreign media may deliver the information to Chinese readers after concluding respective agreements with them.
RIA Novosti was sanctioned to sell its information services in China in 2007, while entering into the agency agreement is the second mandatory stage that starts the actual sales.
Of all news agencies of Russia, RIA Novosti is the only one with Chinese newswire, but there is also the Chinese-language Internet media, RusNews.cn.
