Inflation Hit 5% from Year-Start
The inflation in Russia was 0.5 percent from April 1 through 7, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Russia’s statistics authority Rosstat.
The prices have soared 5.3 percent since early this year, while the Q1 inflation was 4.8 percent vs. just 3.4 percent in the first quarter of 2007. The weekly pace was 0.2 percent in early March but it accelerated to 0.3 percent by the end of the month.
The prices for bread and wheat flour are the growth leaders. In 18 constituents of Russia, the prices for some kinds of bread stepped up by over 4 percent, Interfax reported.
The prices in Russia were initially forecasted to increase 8.5 percent during 12 months. But the estimate was adjusted to 9.5 percent in March. The inflation reached 11.9 percent in 2007 vs. the annual target of just 8 percent.
