Zyuganov Threatens to Strip Putin off Communist Support
Leader of Russia’s Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov vowed that his faction might refuse to back up Vladimir Putin’s candidacy as the prime minister in the State Duma, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reported.
Despite being the faction leader, Zyuganov specified, he had neither participated in consultations on the PM candidacy nor been informed about the strength of the future cabinet.
Meanwhile, the communist leader bluntly rejected Alexei Kudrin and Mikhail Shvydkoy as future ministers. If they continue to work in Putin’s cabinet, the communist faction won’t vote for such PM, Zyuganov made clear.
As to the communist faction, it won’t put forward the candidates to the government. “Let one party form the cabinet and be responsible for it. We have no intention to sink with them,” Zyuganov said.
According to previous reports of the media, the State Duma will vote for Vladimir Putin as the country’s PM on May 8, i.e. on the next day after Dmitry Medvedev is inaugurated the RF president.
