Moscow to Set to Assembling Electromobiles in 2009
Moscow will probably start assembling and putting into operation the first national electromobiles already in 2009, Leonid Lipsits, chief of the transport and communication department of the city’s government, said during the Tuesday meeting of Moscow cabinet.
“So far, we are considering the purchase of electromobile vehicles overseas, but the assembly could be launched already in 2009 and the national electromobiles could be used in Moscow afterwards,” the official specified.
According to Lipsits, they have bought a pilot consignment of electromobiles from foreign manufacturers. The capacity of those cars ranges from 9KW to 30KW and they may drive up to 150km without recharging.
“Unfortunately, electromobiles cost higher than the gasoline or diesel cars, but it could be explained by the fact that those are just the pilot lots. If the electromobiles are to be put into large-scale operation, their cost will be much lower than the cost of the gasoline vehicles,” the official pointed out.
In Moscow, the present-day automobile facilities will be constructed this year to test the first electromobiles of Russia’s make, Lipsits said.
