Putin Ordered to Help Kosovo
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has ordered to provide humanitarian aid to the population of self-proclaimed Kosovo. The president committed Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov to work out that question, specifying, however, that the aid to the Serbian province should be given “without any political coloring” and “irrespective of nationality,” Interfax reported.
The proposal to provide humanitarian aid to Kosovo emerged following the statement of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the tension in the Serbian enclaves inside Kosovo. Lavrov also spoke of the Serbian call for support. The Serbs request to supply medicine, medical facilities, hygiene accommodations, foodstuffs of long-time storage.
Kosovo parliament unilaterally declared independence in mid-February. Most of the EU member-states and the United States have recognized Kosovo, while Russia, Serbia and a few other countries view that unilateral declaration the violation of international laws.
