Goznak Willing to Withdraw 1 Kopeck from Circulation
In the interview to Izvestia, Goznak General Director Arkady Trachuk shed light on the so-called monetary reform elaborated by his company. Today’s concern of Goznak, the official said, is to stop minting small coins.
Nowadays, Trachuk went on, they are minting the coins that disappear once they reach the retail. So, the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) committed Goznak to come up with proposals aimed at cheapening the production of small coins. One of the solutions, Goznak decided, could be rounding all prices at least to 10 kopecks.
Trachuk said they are developing bactericidal paper for banknotes and this paper has reached the stage of operational testing already. The pilot banknotes are used in some regions, the official specified.
CBR is aggressively launching ten-ruble coins into circulation, Trachuk said, adding that Goznak is going to gradually replace ten-ruble banknotes by coins. Using the coins is of greater profit, as the service life of a ten-ruble banknote ranges from seven to nine months, while the coins serve 15 times longer than that, according to the official.
