State Duma to Urge Putin to Focus on Abkhazia, South Ossetia
The State Duma lawmakers will probably address Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, urging him to consider advisability of recognizing the independence of Abkhazia, South Ossetia.
In the following hours, Russia's parliamentarians will focus on the address to President Vladimir Putin that calls for adjusting the country’s policy in respect of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdniestria in view of the will of the people living there.
The State Duma focused on the status of unrecognized republics after Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia. Soon after it, to be more precise on March 6, Russia lifted the ban imposed in 1996 on any trading, economic, financial and transport ties with Abkhazia. The RF Foreign Ministry sent the respective official note to the Executive Committee of CIS.
Georgia asserted that move of Russia as an attempt to encroach on its territorial integrity, aggravate the situation in the region and oppose Georgia’s admission to NATO.
