Guus Hiddink Set Targets for Euro 2008
Advancing to the play-off is the key task of Russia at the Euro 2008 Soccer Championship in June, chief coach Guus Hiddink said when interviewed by Sport Day After Day. Playing in the final isn’t enough for the team and he wants to amaze the rivals, the Dutch coach emphasized.
It won’t be the easy tournament, Hiddink went on, pointing out that the mere participation in it is a big plus for all football of Russia, while reaching another round with a new team will be a breakthrough.

Once you are in the elite group, the respect is growing along with the management professionalism, Hiddink said, naming the team of Spain as the key rival of Russia. The results of the first match that the Russians will play exactly with Spain will determine their further progress to the greatest extent.

When commenting on the absence of disqualified Andrei Arshavin in the first two matches, Hiddink said that Arshavin is one of the key players of the team, but the Russians have a chance even without Arshavin, they will have to outlive it and move on.

Russia will play Greece, Spain and Sweden at the Euro 2008 Soccer Championship.
