Gazprom, Naftogaz Inked Strategic Agreement
Russia’s gas monopoly Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz have inked the agreement on gas relations development, Gazprom’s press service announced.
Under the agreement, Gazprom’s subsidiary will be directly supplying the gas to industrial consumers of Ukraine from April 1, 2008. The annual volume won’t be below 7.5 billion cu meters. Naftogaz will pay to Rosukrenergo $315 per each thousand cu meters of Russia’s gas supplied in January and February. The settlement could be effected by returning the respective quantity of the gas.

In line with the agreement, Ukraine will receive at least 49.8 billion cu meters from March to December, paying $179.5 for each thousand cu meters.

Naftogaz will buy the gas on Ukrainian borders. The gas of Central Asia that was supplied in January and February (5.2 billion cu meters) will be executed and paid under the contracts with Rosukrenergo and Ukrgazenergo.

Today isn’t the first day of negotiations. Gazprom and Naftogaz resumed the discussions Wednesday after sorting out another conflict on March 5, 2008. Then, the parties agreed by phone that Ukraine would pay for and make contracts for the gas it received from January 1 to March 1 and Gazprom lifted the 50-percent restriction on the gas supplies that were in force March 3 and 4.
