Russia Ranked the 65th in the List of Weakest States
Brookings Institution has released its Index of State Weakness in the Developing World that covers 141 countries and is based on assessment of their economic and political situation, security and social condition. Russia’s state structure is weaker than in Iran, Serbia and Turkey, the report says.
Brookings Institution analysts compiled the ranking in view of the growth pace, per capita GDP, inflation, the income gap between the rich and the poor and the quality of government’s administration.
The top 10 list of the weakest states sets forth Somali, Afghanistan, Congo, Iraq, Burundi, Sudan, Central African Republic, Zimbabwe, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire,
Of all countries of former Soviet Union, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have the lowest rankings (35th and 36th respectively). They are followed by Tadjikistan (42), Russia (65), Kyrgyzstan (73), Azerbaijan (80), Belarus (81), Moldova (88), Kazakhstan (89), Georgia (90), Armenia (105), Ukraine (107), Latvia (136) and Lithuania (138).
Four categories were singled out, ranging from the failed states to the powerful and stable ones. Similar to Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, Russia is in the category of the countries calling for particular attention.
