Maskaev Loses Title
Samuel Peter's victory over Russian Oleg Maskaev in the World Boxing Council heavyweight fight for the world championship title in Cancun, Mexico, makes Maskaev the second Russian of two to lose his title in the last two weeks. Sultan Ibragimov just lost the World Boxing Organization title to Wladimir Klitschko as well.
Peter kept his promise to “eat alive” the Russian and met the bookmakers expectations, which were strongly in his favor.

Peter's victory came in the sixth round with a technical knockout. Peter is the first Nigerian to win the title. “I'm the world champion. Who's next? I'm the best heavyweight champion in the world,” Peter challenged.

Another Russian boxer, Nikolay Valuev, the ”Russian Giant,” was an honored guest in the ring.

According to the BBC, Peter broke his own record with 30 wins and only one loss (to Wladimir Klitschko). He intends to set that record straight in another fight against the Ukrainian. "Klitschko's next," said Peter. "I'm ready for him tomorrow."
