Security Council Resolution on Iran Excludes Using Force
A new resolution on Iran that the U.N. Security Council passed Monday excludes using force to solve the nuclear problem of that country, said Vitaly Churkin, who is Russia’s envoy to U.N.
“The principal thing is that the Security Council’s resolution has been passed in conformity with the clause of the U.N. Charter and doesn’t provide for any forceful actions,” Echo Moskvy quoted the diplomat as saying.

The Security Council will make the next moves against Iran if necessary, but without using the force, according to the resolution. “We are still sure the efficient solution of Iran’s nuclear problem could be found exclusively at the political and diplomatic level,” Churkin specified.

The U.N. Security Council passed a new resolution Monday, toughening sanctions on Iran for its refusal to suspend nuclear enrichment. But new sanctions don’t extend to Iran’s economy, hitting instead only the organizations suspected of aiding Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
