U.S. Dollar Depreciates for 5 Straight Days
The rate of exchange averaged 24.10 ruble/U.S. dollar at the start of today’s special trading session for the U.S. currency (tomorrow settlement). It is 10 kopecks below the official rate set for February 28.
U.S. dollar is depreciating to Russia’s ruble for the fifth trading day in a row; the loss of the previous four days reached 35 kopecks.
The U.S. currency shed 26 kopecks to Russia’s ruble yesterday. Although the decline has somewhat slowed down on MICEX, a new wave of ruble's material appreciation is evident.
The reason of dollar's unhealthy performance here is its hefty losses in Europe. Euro surged to the record maximum of $1.5057 yesterday. It costs $1.5105 today vs. roughly $1.48 two days earlier, having gained 2 percent vs. February 26.
