Russia to Name New President March 7
Russia’s Central Election Commission will summarize the results of presidential election March 7, 2008, Central Election Commission Chairman Vladimir Churov told the reporters today.
Russia is ready for election, Churov said. “Complete readiness. Today’s conference call has proved it in whole. Everything is exactly on schedule.”
When analyzing the progress in preparing election in certain regions of Russia, Churov committed Massa Evloev, deputy chief of the Election Commission of Ingushetia, to keep additional records of voters’ turnout. “We must do everything to disperse doubts and confirm the turnout of voters in the Republic of Ingushetia,” Churov specified.
Ingushetia manifested the turnout of 98 percent at the recent parliamentary election, giving rise to certain speculations about the validity of results reported by it.
A working group has been set up in the Central Election Commission to ensure activities related to the presidential election. It is chaired by Stanislav Vavilov, who is Churov’s deputy chief. The key concern of the group is to arrange the work aimed at determining election results by the first copies of voting protocols of the RF constituents.
