VTsIOM: Medvedev Will Win with 72.9%
Data from the All-Russia Center for the Study of Public Opinion indicate that First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will win the presidential race with 72.9 percent of the vote. Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov will receive 15 percent, LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky will take 10.9 percent, and Democratic Party leader Andrey Bogdanov will receive 1 percent. Turnout will be 69.7 percent. These are the results of the organization's last pre-election poll.
General director of the All-Russia Center for the Study of Public Opinion (Russian abbreviation VTsIOM) Valery Fedorov explained that the data are based on weekly polls of 1600 people in 153 cities and villages in 46 regions of the Russian Federation. The margin of error is 3.4 percent.
In the poll taken February 16-17, Fedorov said, 61.2 percent of respondents expressed a preference for Medvedev, 9 percent for Zyuganov and 6.8 percent for Zhirinovsky. Some respondents were unable to decide. “In 2004, Vladimir Putin won with about the same results,” Fedorov noted.
