Famed Right Defender Refused Russia’s Visa First Time since Soviet Union
Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth said the RF Foreign Ministry had refused to grant Russia’s visa to him.
The RF Foreign Ministry was well aware of his plans to arrive in Russia and changed requirements to his visa, Kenneth Roth said when calling from New York during the Moscow presentation of the Human Rights Watch report, “Choking on Bureaucracy: State Curbs on Independent Civil Society Activism.”

Roth had planned to personally present the report at the press conference in Moscow.

According to Roth, it was for the first time since the Soviet Union that an envoy of Human Rights Watch was refused Russia’s visa. Asked about the visa for Roth, people in the RF Foreign Ministry said the issue is not within their competence, RIA Novosti reported.
