Russia’s Foreign Ministry Blamed Separatism Encouragement on EU
The statements that the European Union passed February 18 in response to the independence declaration of Kosovo are the selection of mutually exclusive theses and alogisms, the RF Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Mikhail Kamynin commented on the EU response to Kosovo’s independence.
By urging each member to decide on Kosovo’s independence, the EU Council has actually launched a chain reaction of its illegal recognition as an independent state, Kamynin emphasized.

The decision to station the EU mission in Kosovo has no legal grounds either, spokesman of Foreign Ministry said. These actions of the EU violate Russia-EU road map for common area of external security, first of all in respect of strengthening the central role of the UN.

As before, Russia believes that the problem of Kosovo status should be sorted out by secure and long-term method of working out some compromising solution in view of the leading role of the UN Security Council, Kamynin pointed out.

“Our initiative is to jointly elaborate a road map that would take into account interests of both parties, priorities of key international participants in Kosovo settlement and that would mark milestones en route of the parties towards reaching an agreement in the context of their Europe's integration future,” Kamynin specified.

Kosovo declared independence February 17. Afghanistan, the United States, Turkey, France and Australia have recognized it a sovereign state.
