Russia Launches Opel Astra Assembly
The St. Petersburg facility of General Motors has set to the mass production of Opel Astra. The cars are assembled from sets that are supplied from Germany and the target is to make 25,000 Opel Astras in Russia this year.
The effect of domestic assembly on Opel Astra’s price is yet unknown, at least the GM representatives don’t comment on the issue yet. GM will probably launch the assembly of other Opels here, including Corsas, Zafiras and Vectras of the next generation.

GM set to assembling its cars at St. Petersburg facility past fall, producing only Chevrolet Captivas until recently. The annual capacity of this enterprise is 70,000 with the possible extension to 210,000 a year. Over $300 million was invested to construct the facility.
