Russia Found Itself Severely Isolated in Europe, Wisner Said
Russia has found itself severely isolated in Europe because of the Kosovo position, said U.S. Special Envoy for Kosovo Frank Wisner.
"I’m stymied to explain why Russia has been so obdurate in this process. It’s found itself severely isolated in Europe and in, most recently, the Security Council,” Ambassador Frank Wisner, the U.S. special envoy to Kosovo, announced in the live air yesterday when discussing the implications of Kosovo’s declaration of independence.

Asked whether Russia would be able to frustrate Kosovo’s access to international institutions, Wisner said: “I think it’s time for all of us to move on.”

The United States officially recognized independent Kosovo Monday and confirmed readiness to establish diplomatic relations with it. The respective statement was made by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and President George Bush addressed a letter to Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu. Britain, France, Turkey, Albania, Austria officially backed up Kosovo as well, but Russia, China and some other members of the U.N. Security Council condemned the move of the Serbian province.
