Winning Oscar for 12 Isn’t Most Important
The news that the youth understood “12” is the best award, Russia’s famous film director Nikita Mikhalkov said.
“I was simply astonished by the age of those watching “12.” I had realized that the film would be interesting to the people of my generation but 18, 20 years... I felt an unbelievable burst of hope,” Mikhalkov told reporters in Moscow Monday.
“I hope that these boys that fill mouths with popcorn and watch all sorts of nonsense sometimes, are the people born in the country with great literature,” he said.
Mikhalkov said “12” was very important for him and that he was pleasantly surprised that the film had been nominated for Oscar.
The film is a remake of Sidney Lumet's 1957 "12 Angry Men" but Mikhalkov said he hadn’t watched that movie again to avoid the spell.
