Russia’s Parliament to Make Statement on Kosovo Monday
The Councils of both houses of the RF parliament, the State Duma and Federation Council, will make February 18 a joint statement on consequences of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence, RBC reported with reference to Mikhail Margelov, chairman of the Foreign Committee of the Federation Council.
According to the lawmaker, foreign committees of both houses have urgently elaborated the draft. The wording is currently agreed on between the State Duma factions and members of the Federation Council.

“The plans are to promulgate a final text of the statement today,” the senator said, adding that the Federation Council doesn’t intend to come up with any separate statements either on February 19, during the sitting of its Council, or February 20, during its plenary meeting.

Russia’s lawmakers had always warned the authorities of Kosovo against unilateral declaration of independence, urging them instead to proceed with the efforts to find some solution via negotiations.

Russia has demanded calling the meeting of the U.N. Security Council and presses for overruling the Independence Act, which the Kosovo parliament passed February 17. But Britain, France, Germany and Italy may recognize a new state even before the respective sitting of that authority of the U.N.
