Europe Apprehends Dependence on Russia’s Energy Supplies
People in the better part of European states are rather apprehensive about the dependence on Russia’s energy supplies, signaled the poll of The Financial Times/Harries that AFP released Monday.
At the same time, the respondents in Europe, particularly in Eastern Europe, said that the price for energy that is consumed for daily needs is the priority for them. They are ready to switch to alternative sources, wind farms, for instance, provided it won’t fuel the prices.
Europe is equally wary of Russia’s investments. People in Britain, France, Italy and Germany are very concerned about this problem, but Spain broke the trend with 55 percent of respondents manifesting the positive attitude to Russia’s money.
All these concerns notwithstanding, Europe is generally friendly towards Russia. Only in Britain, the majority said they view Russia as a foe rather than a friend.
