Ukraine Paid Part of Its Gas Debt
Naftogaz Ukrainy has paid for part of the natural gas it received from Ukrgaz-Energo. More than 500 million hryvnas (about $100 million) were transferred. That debt which was on the books on November 1, 2007. Thus, Ukraine has not paid any of its debt for November and December of last year yet.
An agreement was reached on February 12 at a meeting of the presidents of the two countries, Russia's Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's Viktor Yushchenko. They agreed that Ukraine would pay its debt at 2007 prices and begin that repayment on February 14.

It was also decided at that meeting that Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy would form a trading company to replace RosUkrEnergo and a sales company to replace Ukrgaz-Energo.
