Ascent Now Most Popular Foreign Car
The best selling foreign car in Russia in January was the Hyundai Ascent compact sedan. The European Business Association in Russia reports that demand for that model has almost doubled in a year, to 5060 vehicles. Sales of the former market leader Ford Focus were down 3 percent to 4723 vehicles. Analysts attribute its setback to the strike at the Ford plant in Vsevolozhsk and a new lineup of Focus models.
They were followed in sales in January by the Chevrolet Lancetti, Renault Logan and Daewoo Nexia. Top sales increases were experienced by the Honda Civic (up 419%), Opel Corsa (up 371%), Chevrolet Aveo (up 284%) and Hyundai Getz (up 252%).
Among foreign carmakers, Chevrolet was the top seller with 13,753 vehicles sold in January. It was followed by Hyundai with 12,698 and Toyota with 10,639. Ford came in fourth. Its sales fell by 1 percent, while the market as a whole grew by 53 percent. Great Wall, Infiniti, Land Rover and Opel experienced the greatest increases in sales.
