Putin Clarified Peculiarities of Russia’s Election
The presidential election campaign runs so smoothly in Russia because the nation supports the policy of country’s leaders, Vladimir Putin said Thursday during his last annual press conference in capacity of the RF second president.
Putin gave this explanation when answering the query of German reporter, who called the forthcoming presidential election very strange, as it is held without competition and with the frontrunner refusing to take part in debates.
The TV debates make no sense for Medvedev, Putin explained, as they are likely to be of populist nature. The election laws are observed in whole and all candidates have equal opportunities to inform voters of their standing.
Putin again confirmed his will to be the prime minister in time of Medvedev’s presidency, but urged not to hasten events and wait till election results.
Asked about the strength of his cabinet, Putin gave no definite names, specifying, however, that the president’s administration and the cabinet will change after election.
Russia holds presidential election March 2, 2008.
The authority of prime minister will suffice, the president made clear. “The supreme executive power in the country is the RF government. The authority is enough. We will divide [it] with Dmitry Andreevich, if a voter allows us to do it, in practical terms, how to build our relations,” Putin said. “There will be no problems, I can tell you,” the president emphasized.
