IIPA Recommended to Retain Russia on Priority Watch List
Russia has been again added to the annual list of the nations with the highest piracy, the Priority Watch List, compiled by the International Property Alliance (IIPA).
Apart from Russia, the Priority Watch List includes Argentina, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, India, Israel, Mexico, China, the Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela.

The IIPA 2008 Special 301 Report also reminds that, in November of 2006, Moscow and Washington entered into a IPR Bilateral Agreement in the context of Russia’s efforts to accede to the World Trade Organization. The agreement reflects Russia’s acknowledgement of the numerous legal reforms and enforcement steps it needs to undertake to modernize and improve its copyright system for the benefit of Russian and foreign authors. But the piracy is still very high in Russia, the IIPA emphasized.

The U.S. companies suffered the losses of roughly $2 billion from Russia’s piracy in 2006. The amount lowered to $1.43 billion past year, as Russia manifested certain progress in the undertaken commitments, including amending the legislation.
