Analysts Forecast Boom for Runet
Russia will have 40 million Internet users by late 2008, signaled the survey of eMarketer. Should it happen, the country will emerge as Europe’s second leader, yielding only to Germany in this indicator.
Some 43 percent in Russia will use Internet by 2012, the analysts forecast based on the booming number of those who benefit from this achievement of humanity.
Russia had 35 million Runet users, or 24.8 percent of the population, past year. The indicator will reach 40.3 million in 2008, 45.4 million in 2009 and exceed 50 million in 2010. Poland and other states of Eastern Europe manifest the growth of similar pace.
For eMarketer, each person of at least three years of age with an Internet access of at least once a month, is deemed an Internet user.
But comScore has quite different statistics. The September 2007 survey of this organization showed that the share of Runet users was just 12 percent. The difference isn’t surprising. ComScore doesn’t take into account the clients of Internet cafes, users of mobile devices as well as the children and teenagers younger than 15.
