Presidents of Russia, Uzbekistan to Negotiate in Kremlin
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin meets with Uzbek President Islam Karimov in the Kremlin today, February 6, 2008. Karimov arrived in Moscow on official visit yesterday.
The presidents will start by the tête-à-tête talk, proceeding to negotiations of the delegations in the next move. Last time, Russia’s and Uzbekistan’s leaders met in Bishkek past August, during the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The current tour of Karimov is his first foreign visit after being reelected the Uzbek president in December of 2007.
The negotiations will continue the intense political dialogue of Russia and Uzbekistan that is based on the principles of strategic partnership and alliance, a source with the Kremlin told Interfax, specifying that the agreements reached at the CIS informal summit that was held in St. Petersbrug in June of 2007 formed a vital stage of that dialogue.
