Russians Drink Less Vodka, More Beer
Russians drank less vodka last year, as compared with 2006, according to statistics compiled by the National Alcohol Association. That organization calculated that Russians drank 191.4 million decaliters of vodka in 2007, down 21 million dal. from the previous year.
The NAA also noted that Russian beer drinking was up in the same period. Last year, 1.0714 billion dal. of beer were drunk in Russia, up from 971.8 billion in 2006. Wine and cognac consumption were also up.
All told, Russians consumed 150 million dal. of ethyl alcohol in 2007, which is 8 percent less than in 2006. In a report issued a week before this on, the NAA also noted that Russians are drinking less eau de cologne, glass cleaner and similar surrogates, turning to cheap vodka in their place.
