Kaloev Appointed Deputy Minister in North Ossetia
Prime minister of North Ossetia has appointed Vitaly Kaloev deputy minister for construction and architecture, RIA Novosti reported. Kaloev served the sentence in Switzerland for killing the air traffic controller linked to the 2002 mid-air collision and released not long ago.
Kaloev’s candidacy for the office of deputy minister for construction and architecture was approved at today’s sitting of North Ossetia's cabinet.
In October of 2005, the Zurich court found Kaloev guilty of intended murder of air traffic controller Peter Nielsen, the Skyguide employee, who was on duty when cargo Boeing of DHL crashed with Tu-154 of Bashkir Airlines. The accident killed 71, including 45 children. Kaloev lost his wife and children in the crash.
Kaloev was convicted to eight years in prison in Switzerland, but the sentence was shortened to five years and three months in June of 2007. The Swiss court released Kaloev November 8, who returned to his native North Ossetia after it.
