Putin Congratulates Saakashvili on Win
Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili a congratulatory message in connection with his recent reelection, the Kremlin press service reports. “I congratulate you on your re-election to the post of President of Georgia,” Putin wrote in his message. “It is my hope that the upcoming period will bring constructive development in the relations between our countries.”
Russian Ambassador to Georgia Vyacheslav Kovalenko informed the Georgian government today that Putin would not attend Saakashvili's inauguration on January 20. Instead, the Russian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Saakashvili received 53.4 percent of the vote in the January 5 election. The Georgian opposition is claiming massive vote fraud and demanding the arrest of the chairman of the Georgian Central Elections Commission Levan Tarkhnishvili.
