October Not Bad for Playing Germany
Russia’s squad won’t be targeted at fighting only for the second place in the 2010 World Cup qualifying group, Guus Hiddink, who is the chief coach of the team, said in the interview with Sovetsky Sport.
Although it would be better to play Germany not in October but in summer, when the season in Bundes League is beginning and the season in Russia is in high gear, October 10 and 11 won’t be bad at all, Hiddink said.

The team should play well irrespective of seasons, if we want to succeed, the coach said, pointing out that other matches will be of equal significance and the main thing is not to lose scores.

It won’t be easy, but we won’t be aimed at fighting only for the second place. The aims should be the highest, Hiddink said, adding that Russia is below Germany in the world football, but the teams, not the ratings, are playing. The team has won a place amid the strongest and we are to confirm it when qualifying for the World Cup, the coach said.

Playing against the so-called small teams may cause problems as well and it won’t be easy with Azerbaijan or Lichtenstein, Hiddink pointed out, promising to tune players for those matches, as he doesn’t doubt that they will tune for Germany themselves.
