Election Commission Declares Saakashvili Winner
Ex-president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, won in the first-round of the presidential elections, News Georgia reported with reference to the web of the Central Election Commission.
The recent president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili was backed up by the vote of 52.21 percent, while the united opposition candidate Levan Gachechiladze yielded with 25.26 percent, signaled the data from 3,424 of 3,512 Georgia’s polling stations. Although not particularly impressive, this tiny dominance of former president has enabled him to avoid the second-round run-off with Gachechiladze.

Businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili managed to get no more than 6.99 percent.

Saakashvili had first led with 69 percent and just 16.68 percent had supported Gachechiladze, but the gap narrowed later on and Saakashivli had 48.55 percent after the count of ballots from 819 polling stations.

Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, stood for Gachechiladze. There, the opposition won in all election districts, having collected nearly 50 percent in some of them. But the regions stepped in to push the Rose Revolution leader to power again.
