Zenith Transfer Expensive for Liverpool
The English soccer team Liverpool has reached an agreement with Russian champions Zenith on the transfer of Slovak player Martin Skrtel. He has already been given his medical okay by the Merseyside team and agreed to his personal contract conditions. The transfer cost Liverpool £6.5 million (more than $13 million), according to the Liverpool Daily Post. Reports of the price paid by Liverpool have varied.
After the transfer is officially registered with FIFA, the Slovak will be the most expensive defender in Liverpool's history. BBC News reports that Skrtel will sign his contract within hours, after the American owners of Liverpool, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, approve the payment to Zenith. Skrtel joined St. Petersburg-based Zenith in 2004. The team is now the champion of Russia. The 23-year-old Skrtel played 15 games for the national team.
