Nissan Join Renault and AvtoVAZ
Japanese carmaker Nissan Motors may join in a partnership with the French Renault and Russian AvtoVAZ, according to Renault sales and marketing director Patrick Blain. He added that the Russian company has yet to approve that move. Renault agreed to purchased a 25-percent share in AvtoVAZ last month. The final price for that share will be revealed after the final agreement is signed on February 25.
The French-Russian partnership is expected to increase the pace of development of the Russian car industry. Renault and Nissan have had an alliance since 2001, when they exchanged share packages, making Renault the owner of 44 percent of Nissan shares and Nissan the owner of 15 percent of Renault. Renault has facilities in at least 118 countries and over 126,000 employees. It acquired the Romanian Dacia automaker in 1999 and South Korean Samsung in 2000. It accounted for 3.6 percent of world car sales in 2007, selling 2,487,453 vehicles.
