Million-Plus Biometric Passports in 2008
About 300 Russian Federal Migration Service offices will issue biometric passports, which will be sufficient to provide for the entire country. “We expect to open new FMS branches, which will permit us to issue more than 1 million biometric passports in 2008,” a source told Interfax information agency.
Last year, biometric passports were issued in the pilot regions of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad Region.
