But 84 percent proved unable to make the general choice.

Asked about year’s most significant event in domestic policy, 44 percent said it was the State Duma elections and 8 percent chose putting forward First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev as presidential candidate. Viktor Zubkov’s appointment as Russia’s prime minister was vital for 5 percent of respondents.

Some 2 percent chose strengthening Russia’s standing worldwide and 1 percent said it was the decision of International Olympic Committee to convene Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Inflation and the growth in prices were the key economic event for 17 percent of respondents and 12 percent said it was the increase in salaries of budget employees and in pensions. From 3 percent to 4 percent chose development of social projects, national programs’ implementation, upsurge of economy, ruble stabilization, growth in GDP.
