Presidential Campaign Reached Another Stage
The portion of presidential campaign that provides for nominating candidates ended in Russia, Interfax reported December 24. The Central Election Commission has proceeded to official registration of contenders for the office of country’s head.
Nowadays, there are six candidates to Russia’s presidency, the Commission’s secretary Nikolay Konkin announced yesterday. Of them, four candidates were put forward by political parties and two candidates independently nominated themselves.

The party candidates are Dmitry Medvedev (United Russia), Gennady Zyuganov (Communist Party of the RF), Vladimir Zhirinovsky (LDPR) and Boris Nemtsov (Union of Right Forces (SPS)). As candidates, Zhirinovsky and Zyuganov will be officially registered already this week.

Russia’s former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov, who is the current leader of People’s Democratic Union, and Democratic Party chief Andrei Bogdanov are still in the race for Russia’s presidency. The Central Election Commission will accept documents for official registration through January 16.

The exact list of candidates to be spelled out in the ballot at March 2 presidential elections will be compiled after January 27.
