Latvijas Gaze, Gazprom to Make Contract Next Week
Latvijas Gaze plans to ink a contract with Gazprom that will cover gas supplies from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2010, Interfax/BNS reported.
Latvijas Gaze intends next week to ink a contract with Gazprom that will cover the natural gas supplies from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2010, said Latvijas Gaze briefer Vinsents Makaris.

According to Makaris, the company currently elaborates new gas tariff rates for Latvian consumers and will present them to the commission for public service regulation in January of 2008.

The gas tariff rates for Latvian consumers are likely to go up starting from May 1, 2008, Vesti Today reported with reference to Valentina Andreeva, chief of the commission for public service regulation.

From May 1, 2007, Latvijas Gaze hiked gas prices for the population by 17 percent, while big consumers faced the increase of about 30 percent. The gas prices soared again later on, that time they were driven up by higher prices for black oil.

Latvijas Gaze buys gas from Gazprom (roughly 70 percent) and Itera Latvija (roughly 30 percent). The company’s business includes gas purchase, shipment, storage and distribution. Its biggest holders are German E.ON Ruhrgas, Gazprom and Itera Latvija.
