EU Ministers Defined Vodka Drink
The agriculture ministers of the European Union have agreed on a new trading definition for vodka and sanctioned its production from unusual raw in addition to traditional grain or potato.
From now on, the distilleries may refer to vodka the alcohol drink produced from unusual raw provided the labels specify its content to consumers. This vodka will be called the blended vodka.
This decision of the EU agriculture ministers could be viewed as the victory over traditionalists that advocated preserving the vodka’s status as a drink made of grain or potato.
Finland, Poland and Sweden contested the so-called vodka reform, but Britain, the Netherlands and Austria stood for lifting the restrictions. World’s biggest distillery and distributor, Britain’s Diageo Plc also backed up the blended drink.
