Nemtsov to Run for Presidency from the Rightists
The Union of Right Forces (SPS) Congress has put forward Boris Nemtsov, member of the party’s Political Council, as the presidential candidate.
Nominating a single candidate is the top priority for democrats, Nemtsov emphasized when addressing the Congress. He also drew attention to negotiations that he was holding with other democratic candidates, Vladimir Bukovsky and Mikhail Kasyanov.

Of three candidates, two are expected to halt the campaign by January 16, 2008 in favor of the candidate with the highest rating. Asked about his readiness to withdraw in favor of another candidate, Nemtsov said: “I’m an ambitious man, but not to the extent that I wouldn’t accept the evident… There should be only one opposition candidate.”

Bukovsky, who addressed the Congress as a guest, also pledged to pull out to the advantage of Nemtsov should his rating be higher. But both Nemtsov and Bukovsky acknowledged that they were yet unable to attain such agreement with Kasyanov. Once prime minister of Russia, Kasyanov leads People’s Democratic Union today.
