Putin Achieved High Stability in Russia
Putin has achieved high stability in Russia, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier made clear in the interview to the country's media. According to Steinmeier, the continuity in Russia’s policy will be maintained if today’s First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is elected the president.
In general, the response of the West to nominating Medvedev the presidential candidate has been rather optimistic so far. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, for instance, doesn’t doubt she will work well together with Dmitry Medvedev should he be elected the president.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice considers Medvedev an intelligent and well-educated man of another generation of policymakers. At the same time, the comment of U.S. President George Bush didn’t inspire optimism. Bush said he neither knows nor remembers Medvedev well enough.

Past week, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin supported Dmitry Medvedev as the presidential candidate. Medvedev was nominated by four parties – the ruling United Russia, Agrarian Party, Civil Force and Fair Russia.
