Medvedev Becomes More Popular Each Sec
The extent of voting support to Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has been manifesting vigorous growth since he joined the presidential race. The gains exceeded 10 percent, pollsters of Levada Center said.
This upward trend shows that, as the successor, Medvedev follows the course of today’s president and enjoys his entire approval. Indeed, some 35 percent of respondents that promised to turn out at elections would vote for Medvedev should the elections be held this Sunday. But the figure was just 24 percent in the middle of November.
What’s more, 87 percent said they support today’s president. The attitude of the nation towards the Constitution is also worth mentioning. Some 31 percent said they regard the Constitution as the guarantee to their rights and freedoms, although only 12 percent had thought so ten years ago.
Of interest is that the number of optimists has grown from 21 percent to 31 percent in the recent two years, when the problem of power transfer has become particularly acute. The Constitution bans the third presidential term in a row, and Putin assured the nation that he would step down as president instead of amending the basic laws.
