NATO Urges Moscow to Fulfill CFE Commitments
NATO allies have urged the Kremlin to recall the decision on unilateral suspension of the CFE Treaty.
The statement that the allies released via the NATO web today specifies their regret and disappointment that Russia has eventually proceeded with the intention to unilaterally suspend its commitments under the CFE Treaty.

The NATO Allies have reaffirmed their right to take any steps provided for by the Treaty and international law, emphasizing, however, that they won’t respond in kind to Russia’s moratorium at this stage. “Allies will continue to meet theirs, without prejudice to any future action they might take. As a first step, when the annual CFE exchange of military information takes place this week, the NATO Allies will meet their obligations,” their web says.

The current chairman of OSCE, Spain's Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos has also called on Russia today to revise its decision on suspending obligations under the CFE Treaty. It may affect the safety in Europe, the high-ranked official cautioned.

Russia suspended implementation of the CFE Treaty on December 12, 2007. It will no longer exchange military information and the inspections have been halted. Russia won’t be tied by any restrictions on number of conventional armaments.
