Bush Doesn’t Hail PM Plans for Putin
U.S. President George Bush didn’t directly comment on the news that Putin would become Russia’s PM once he stepped down as president. As to Putin’s most favored successor, Dmitry Medvedev, Bush said he didn’t know him well enough.
“We just better let the elections play out and see what happens,” U.S. President George Bush said in the interview with ABC News. Bush was elusive when commenting on the PM office for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
"Just let me say this: It is not something I would want to do… I want to serve my time as president of the country and move on and let somebody else take the helm and that is exactly what is going to happen here," the U.S. president announced making clear the difference between Moscow and Washington.
Yesterday, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev suggested that Vladimir Putin should become the prime minister once he steps down as president. Earlier this week, four parties, including the ruling United Russia, nominated Medvedev the presidential candidate and Putin said he favored exactly Medvedev.
“Expressing my readiness to run for Russia’s presidency, I address him [Putin] with the request to agree in principal to head Russia’s government after elections of the country's new president,” Medvedev said.
