Putin Named Medvedev the Successor
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has supported the candidacy of First Vice Premier Dmitry Medvedev as his successor, Vesti TV Channel reported.
Medvedev was nominated by four political parties – the United Russia, Agrarian Party, Civil Force and Fair Russia.

“We would like to propose to you the candidacy that we all favor. It is First Deputy Vice Premier Dmitry Medvedev,” United Russia’s leader Boris Gryzlov announced during the meeting of Putin and leaders of four parties.

“As to the candidacy of Dmitry Medvedev, I have known him very closely for over 17 years and I entirely support this candidacy,” Putin said.

Dmitry Medvedev was born September 14, 1965 in Leningrad (today’s St. Petersburg). He graduated from the legal department of Leningrad State University in 1987 and finished the postgraduate course in 1990.

He was the professor at St. Petersburg State University in 1990 to 1999, being an advisor to the chairman of Leningrad City Council and an expert at Foreign Ties Committee at St. Petersburg City Hall in 1990 through 1995.

Dmitry Medvedev became deputy head of the government’s office in 1999 and advanced to the first deputy in 2000.

He chairs Gazprom BOD since June of 2002.

Medvedev got the office of president’s administration chief in October of 2003 and was appointed First Vice Premier in November of 2005.
