High-Ranked Terrorist Killed in Chechnya
A foreign mercenary close to masterminds of the overseas terrorist organizations has been killed in Chechnya, said RF Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev.
The mercenary was killed in Shatoisk region of Chechnya by servicemen of Yug (South) battalion, who acted jointly with other special units, Nurgaliev said without giving the name of the terrorist.
Some 55 commanders and fighters of gangs have been killed since early 2007, Nurgaliev said when commenting on the situation in North Caucasus. The actions that were taken helped ease the terrorist threat not only in North Caucasus but also in all Russia.
According to Interior Ministry, the number of terrorist actions in Russia went down 15 fold in the recent four years. As many as 561 terrorist actions were staged in 2003, but the number was just 38 for the first nine months of this year.
