U.S. Rolled Back from Verbal Promise, Lavrov Said
In its written proposals, Washington has significantly rolled back from the Moscow promises, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made clear in Washington.
“At the meeting with Condoleezza Rice, we have discussed key issues of bilateral relations, including the missile defense problems. But bilateral relations are the issue of strategic stability, including the missile defense problems. We have emphasized that the proposals that were submitted in writing... we will continue studying them in detail. But it is clear now, that there is the material rollback from the things voiced by American colleagues in Moscow at the two-plus-two meeting, when the defense secretary and the state secretary of the United States negotiated with us,” Sergei Lavrov told reporters in Washington.

“It is no longer the matter of transparency and strengthening the trust. The United States is still willing to unilaterally station the missile defense elements in Poland and in the Czech Republic. It is not the matter of joint analysis of potential threats. But it is the basis of joint work,” Sergei Lavrov pointed out.
